    I rip using handbrake on a linux system.

    I recently bought a DVD set that says that it is "made for DVD players and may not play on PC drives." As advertised, I am not able to watch, or rip, that one except watching on a DVD player (an XBOX).

    I wonder how that works.. I didn't think they'd be able to change the DVD standard in any way that would prevent ripping, lest risk breaking compatibility with some players.

    I normally use MakeMKV to rip (rather than Handbrake) and have been able to rip every disc I've given it. Some take a couple days because the encryption key is new, but eventually the key gets submitted and it will rip when it updates its encryption database file and gets the new key.
